About Me

My photo
Just an ordinary person trying to discern some meaning and purpose out of life like everyone else on this planet. Life is an adventure that must be lived to the fullest, never taken for granted and experienced with all ones senses.

Sisters

When we are given the chance to do something on the spur of the moment usually we question ourselves: "Should I do this?" This question usually opens the door for the flood of other questions that can either talk us in-to or out-of whatever it is.
I had the opportunity to surprise my sister Jennifer for her birthday last week. It was one of those spur of the moment things, no planning, just "GO". Yes, I did have to make some plans for pastoral coverage, but other than that I just threw some clothes in a bag and took off. Airline fares were low, weather was good and away I went to Tennessee.
One of the many blessings that ministry has taught me is knowing our time on earth is very short. We truly can be here one minute and gone the next. Going to see my sister was not only to surprise her for her birthday, but also to connect with someone whom I usually only see once a year.
Once a year, that's not enough anymore. What really matters when it's all said and done? I believe what matters is our relationships with each other. Yes, our work can make a difference in the lives of others. But really, how many of us develop a new drug? Or solve a world crisis? Most of us just go about our daily living, washing dishes, taking out the trash, feeding the dog, making the beds, paying the bills, repairing something, driving endless hours in the car, and the list goes on.
My point is this: Our relationships are what give us joy, comfort us in times of sorrow, provide the more interesting and meaningful times in our lives. Why not spend our energy in developing and nurturing them instead of watching the latest soap or football game. After all...
I have only one sister and time goes by so fast. Oh, the picture is Jennifer and I as we began our journey together. No we weren't grumpy children, it was very sunny and hot.
