While on Great Barrier Island I visited a Buddhist Monk and two ladies who share a plot of land together. The monk, Anne is from the US originally, her mother was the film star Veronica Lake. The ladies, Gail & her mother are from Australia. Neither Anne nor Gail knew each other before arriving on GB some 20 years ago. In the picture you see Gail and her mothers cottages. These three ladies share a love for gardening and both have beautiful, hand tended gardens.
The water flows down the hillside from a stream, allowing them to have water pressure the natural way. They have hot water from solar panels on the roof and electricity from the small windmills on the property. They grow flowers, but also fruit trees and vegetables. Both have hens which provide fresh eggs daily. Fertilizer is seaweed from the ocean and manure from the goats they keep in the field below. The goats also provide milk, cheese, and goats milk soap. All they need the earth provides, neither Gail or Anne work outside their homes.
Gail described her life as “living in paradise” as God intended. Being the steward of the garden and reaping it’s bounty. Now that says it all!
