I can feel winter slipping away today as I observe the sun rising over the rooftops of the houses. The light has changed. Light takes on new dimensions with each changing season (in case you hadn't noticed) due to the distance of the sun of course. But what I've noticed is that most people don't notice. Most people gauge the change based on temperature, month, or the return of the ground after the winter blanket of snow. These are signs of seasonal change to be sure, but the sunlight always changes first.
Spring light is brighter, clearer, has a light yellow tint and the edges are fuzzy. Fall light is crisp, harsh, has a reddish tonality, and the edges are hard. Winter light is soft, diffused, the light blue tint only compounds the feeling of cold. Summer light is explosively bright, the color is white and the edges are undefined. Light is the presence of all color, the prism unleashes it's beauty. Remember that experiment in primary school?
It's nice this morning watching the day unfold before me.
