About Me

My photo
Just an ordinary person trying to discern some meaning and purpose out of life like everyone else on this planet. Life is an adventure that must be lived to the fullest, never taken for granted and experienced with all ones senses.

There is something to be said for living simply. While in New Zealand I stayed in a variety of places. One of my favorites was my little "batch" at Oponoi in the Hokianga. I had everything I needed and more. Just look at the view off my porch! I was nestled in a valley with only the birds, a few cows, some goats, and natures splendor to keep me company. I was very content! But would I have been so content if I was there for more than one week? Through the winter? Through the spring rains? The nearest neighbor was miles away and the township a good hour. Isolated from the world with only myself to keep me company?

I am grateful for the time I spent in this batch as I had the opportunity to meet myself again. To discover the parts of me that somehow get shoved deep within in the midst of living and working. The parts that need to breathe more than once every decade (if even that). Why then do we continue to allow ourselves to oppress ourselves in this way? Of course we make excuses - work, family, obligations, money, whatever! But really? I think it's because we are afraid to be alone. Our culture doesn't promote solitude, it's not exciting enough. Let me dispel that thought! Solitude is not for the weak and it's definitely exciting! It's the ultimate "do you have what it takes" challenge. Looking for a real life adventure? A reality check? Then let me suggest time apart from everything, alone for one week - it will change your life!
